About the Cause
Posted by TH0385 in Thailand on 04/10/2026
Having access to adequate and varied nutritious food is essential for the growth and development of children, especially those living in boarding schools who sometimes lack access to fresh and nutritionally complete food. Our church's boarding school initiative has conceived the idea of establishing an on-site agricultural garden to grow vegetables and raise animals. This will create a safe, fresh, clean, and diverse food source, allowing the children in the boarding schools to use fresh vegetables, eggs, milk, and small amounts of meat for their meals. This project also promotes agricultural knowledge and skills among the boarding school children. They will learn the food production process from start to finish, including practicing plant and animal care, production planning, and sustainable resource management. Furthermore, having an on-site agricultural garden will reduce food expenses, promote food security, and create a long-term self-sufficiency framework. This will ensure the children have proper nutrition, are healthy, and are ready to learn and participate in various activities to their full potential.

How the church will sustain the Cause
Guidelines for Project Sustainability: Plan for seasonal crop rotation. Select fast-growing vegetables and mix quick-harvest vegetables with longer-lasting ones to ensure a continuous supply of fresh vegetables throughout the year. Raise livestock for appropriate supplemental purposes. Raise small animals such as laying hens or fish in small ponds and control their numbers to ensure sufficient supply but not exceeding the capacity for efficient water and fertilizer management. Use rainwater or recirculating irrigation systems to conserve water and protect the environment. Use compost or organic fertilizer from food scraps and waste materials to promote soil fertility. Provide knowledge and skills to boarding students. Conduct training for students on vegetable gardening, animal husbandry, and food preservation. Encourage students' continued participation in garden management and animal care. Establish a system for storing and stockpiling chilled, frozen, or processed foods from vegetables and animals, such as freezing vegetables, drying them, or making salted eggs. Schedule the rotation of raw materials appropriately to reduce waste. Foster collaboration and support from the community. Collaborate with teachers, parents, or local authorities to help ensure the project's continuity. Possible exchange or sale of surplus produce to generate recurring income for purchasing seeds or equipment.
