About the Cause
Posted by TH0329 in Thailand on 02/20/2026
In our community, many families depend on farming vegetables and seasonal crops for their livelihood. During harvest time, there is often more produce than the market can absorb. Some vegetables remain unsold, and some do not meet the standards required by the central market. As a result, food that could still be useful is discarded. This is discouraging for families who have invested time and effort into growing their crops. At the same time, many households need additional income and a reliable source of food. Market prices for meat can be high, and families with limited income cannot always afford to buy protein regularly. This creates pressure, especially for low income families, elderly people living at home, housewives seeking additional income, and youth who are looking for practical opportunities. For this reason, we started the Self Reliance Pig Farming project. This Cause will use excess vegetables and household food scraps as pig feed. Instead of letting these resources go to waste, families can use them to raise native pigs at low cost. Each participating household will receive basic training, 1 to 2 piglets, and ongoing support from a volunteer team. We will also assist with planning for community level marketing. When the pigs are mature, families can choose to consume them or sell them. This will create an additional source of income, reduce household expenses, and strengthen food security in our community. Through this project, we hope to reduce waste, use our resources wisely, and build stronger cooperation among families as we work toward greater self reliance.

How the church will sustain the Cause
We aim to encourage community members to collaborate, share, learn, and act together to build self-reliance and secure long-term self-sufficiency. We believe that lasting change can only occur when everyone participates, not just by receiving assistance, but also by learning, taking action, and growing together. This project is not solely focused on pig farming for income or food; it also serves as a platform for creating new knowledge, exchanging experiences, and developing vocational skills, utilizing existing community resources with appreciation. When villagers recognize their own worth, dare to think, act, and rely on one another, we believe that our community will be able to grow steadily and sustainably in the future.
