About the Cause

Posted by TH0963 in Thailand on 03/27/2026

In our community, many families grow pumpkins. But when the harvest season comes, there are often too many to sell at once. Prices drop, and some pumpkins are left unused. Families see their work go to waste, even after months of effort. Because of this, parents move away from their children to find more stable work elsewhere. We want to change this. Instead of selling pumpkins only as fresh produce, families will learn how to turn them into simple food products that can last longer. These may include snacks, dried pumpkin, juice, or other local foods. This will allow them to sell over time instead of all at once. We've started this with a few families, but we want to expand and grow the capabilities throughout the community with more equipment to process the pumpkin. People in the community will come together to learn and practice these skills. They will share ideas, help each other, and work as a group. Some will focus on preparing the products, others on packaging or selling. Step by step, they will build something together. Young people will also take part in safe and guided ways. They will learn how food is prepared, how to plan, and how to work with others. This will give them confidence and skills they can use in the future. This work will also help keep local food traditions alive. Families will continue making familiar recipes while also trying new ideas. Over time, these products can become something the community is known for. What was once wasted will become something useful. And what was once uncertain will become more steady. Families will begin to see that what they already have can support them in a better way.

How the church will sustain the Cause

The work will continue by building on what the community already knows and has. Families already grow pumpkins, and this project will help them use that harvest in a better way. A small group will take responsibility for organizing the work and continuing the learning. Skills will be shared with others so more families can take part over time. As products are made and sold, part of the income will be used to continue buying simple materials and supporting the next round of production. This will help the work continue without depending on outside support. The knowledge learned from pumpkin processing can also be used for other crops in the future. This means the community will not rely on only one product but can grow and adapt over time.
