About the Cause

UEBR Gikoma

The goal of this initiative is to establish a carpentry workshop for the Caregiver Association, a group of 23 members who are already involved in carpentry at a small scale. While some members have learned carpentry, they have not been officially certified. However, they are capable of making a variety of wooden products such as chairs, beds, doors, and windows. Despite their skills, the group faces significant challenges due to a lack of proper carpentry tools and machinery. Currently, when the group needs to produce wooden products, they must travel to other areas to find carpentry machines and tools for cutting, shaping, and assembling wood. This process is time-consuming and costly, and it limits their ability to meet local demand. Moreover, their limited capital makes it difficult to purchase the necessary equipment to set up a full-scale carpentry workshop. If the association receives funding to acquire the right machinery and tools, it would greatly enhance their productivity and business potential. The community offers a strong market for their products, and with proper equipment, the group could expand their reach. Additionally, a nearby vocational school offers short courses in carpentry, providing an opportunity for members to gain certification and further enhance their skills. With the right support, the Caregiver Association could establish a fully functional carpentry workshop, producing high-quality furniture and wooden products such as chairs, tables, beds, school desks, doors, and windows. This would not only improve their income but also contribute to the economic development of the community by providing locally made, affordable products.

How the church will sustain the Cause

Our sustainability plan is based on the belief that caregiver group members will be able to save each month with the aim of increasing their living conditions. After a year they will be able to improve on their workshop. The community can also access the carpentry workshop where they can find carpentry products and training. Church members will have learned different skills and obtained certificates hence enabling them to work wherever they will find a job because they will have been certified. With improved income, beneficiaries will have the capacity to save, give and contribute to the sustainability of the workshop. This causes will help the beneficiaries become more self-supporting. They will be able to meet their families basic needs like food, shelter, Education for children, Access health facilities, providing clothes and medical insurance.
