About the Cause
Posted by TH0339 in Thailand on 04/22/2026
In our church, children are already involved in a simple but meaningful food system where they help plant, care for, and harvest vegetables and basic food sources used for daily meals. This gives them direct experience in how food is produced, while also supporting their nutritional needs. If this is strengthened, not only will children have access to three full meals each day. They will also grow in practical life skills such as responsibility, teamwork, patience, and careful use of resources. They will learn through real participation, not just instruction. As they engage in planting, caring, and harvesting, they will begin to understand beginnings, responsibility, and growth in a way that shapes both their character and their future outlook. To build on what already exists, our church will develop this into a more structured and sustainable food and learning system within the shelter. Children will continue to take part in growing vegetables and raising simple protein sources, but with clearer organization in planting cycles, care systems, and shared responsibilities. Through this, we want to turn daily food production into a long-term learning environment that builds strong, capable, and responsible young people.

How the church will sustain the Cause
Going forward, our church will strengthen this initiative into a stable, self-sustaining system where food production and learning are fully connected. The shelter will prioritize producing enough food for daily needs first, while any surplus can be used or shared in small, responsible ways. We will continue reducing costs by using simple, local methods such as composting food waste, producing natural fertilizer, saving seeds, and using low-cost farming systems. This will help the project remain sustainable without heavy reliance on external support. Our church will also build shared ownership among the children by organizing them into small groups with rotating responsibilities such as planting, fish care, composting, and record keeping. This will help them learn leadership, discipline, and teamwork in a practical way. We will also establish clear systems and simple rules to ensure the project remains balanced and responsible over time, including proper harvesting practices, replanting cycles, and basic tracking of food use and production. Over time, this system will not only provide food for the shelter, but also form a living learning environment where children grow in responsibility, self-reliance, and life skills that they can carry into the future.
