WHY IT MATTERS

On dark nights in a remote village, if you pass by a small wooden house at the very edge of the community, you might notice a faint, flickering glow through the window. Inside, 10-year-old Ploy sits quietly, her eyes fixed on the pages of her schoolbooks.

For Ploy, having light is never something to take for granted. Each homework assignment and every approaching exam brings the same question: Will there be enough light tonight?

The most precious thing she owns is not a toy or a bag of sweets, but a small rechargeable lamp she once received as a prize. It is her treasure—her gateway to learning.

Every afternoon after school, Ploy begins an important mission. She walks through the village, searching for homes that have electricity or any place where she can charge her lamp. Sometimes it takes time. Sometimes she has to ask for help. But she knows that without that small light, her chances to study fade into darkness.

On nights when her lamp is fully charged, her face lights up with it. She studies with focus and joy, turning page after page, dreaming of a brighter future.

But on nights when the battery runs out and there is no power to be found, Ploy has no choice but to rely on a dim oil lamp. The smoke stings her eyes, and the weak glow strains her vision. She rubs her eyes again and again, fighting discomfort and fatigue just to finish her work.

What Ploy faces is not only the darkness of night.

She is facing something much bigger—a daily struggle for the simple right to learn, and for a future filled with opportunity.
