Every evening after school, the church playground comes alive with laughter and joyful smiles as more than 80 children from the community gather to play. During Sunday school programs and other church activities, children use the playground to exercise, socialize, and participate in activities that promote their physical, emotional, and social well-being.
However, the playground is fully exposed to the elements. Under the intense afternoon sun, the metal and plastic equipment becomes too hot for children to use safely. During heavy rains, the playground often becomes flooded and unusable. As a result, children lose access to one of the few safe and welcoming spaces available to them in the community.
To address this need, the church plans to construct a roof over the playground area. This improvement will provide protection from both sun and rain, allowing children to play, exercise, learn, and gather safely throughout the year. The covered playground will create a more accessible and sustainable environment that supports children's well-being regardless of weather conditions.
