About the Cause
Posted by Samuel Student Center in El Salvador on 02/17/2026
Every morning, Marta walks for more than twenty minutes to collect water from the community well. She is 63 years old and has been caring for three grandchildren since her daughter emigrated in search of work. A year ago, the youngest was hospitalized with an intestinal infection caused by contaminated water. I remember her wish: “If only I had clean water…” It was that phrase that inspired us to create this Cause. For Marta, water is not a resource: it is the difference between illness and health, between anguish and hope. Our Cause seeks to improve the quality of drinking water in our community through the donation of water filters by altruistic individuals. The problem is clear: many families consume untreated water, which leads to preventable illnesses, school absenteeism, and medical expenses that exacerbate poverty. This initiative will primarily help children and mothers, who are the most affected by the lack of safe water. The community needs this Cause because access to clean water should not be a privilege. We will implement the program by identifying priority households, distributing certified filters, and training families on their use and maintenance. We hope to see fewer illnesses, more school days, and healthier homes. Every filter installed will be an opportunity to transform worry into well-being and pave the way for a more dignified future.

How the church will sustain the Cause
We will sustain this cause long-term through a sustainable model based on community engagement, training, and shared responsibility. First, we will not only provide filters, but also train families in their proper use, cleaning, and maintenance. This will extend their lifespan and reduce future costs. In addition, we will form a small volunteer team within the church to provide regular follow-up to the beneficiary households. Second, we will establish an internal solidarity fund with voluntary contributions and local activities to cover basic replacements without relying on constant external donations. Third, we will encourage the beneficiary families themselves to contribute to the care and maintenance of the filters for future use. This strengthens their sense of ownership and responsibility for the resource. Finally, we will integrate this initiative as a permanent part of the church's social ministry, including ongoing education on health and hygiene. In this way, the cause will not be a temporary project, but a mission sustained by commitment, organization, and shared responsibility.
To be a church that reflects the love of Jesus towards the lost, the needy and those without hope, in order to bring about a change in their lives and in their families, through a personal and genuine encounter with Jesus Christ.
