The family’s new home will feature separate spaces for the bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom.
Yasmin is the mother of three girls: one 12 years old, one 10, and one 3. The oldest, Yoverlina, is enrolled in the program. This family lives in a small house made of wood and zinc, with no partitions between the kitchen, living room, and bathroom. Yasmin works part-time in a small business and earns around 10,000 pesos (less than US$200) a month. Potable water arrives only once a week through the pipes, which she stores in a container. She also buys water to drink. Electricity is unreliable, and going to the doctor is difficult because it's far away. With this assistance, the family will have a more suitable home: damaged boards and some of the zinc roofing will be replaced, and partitions will be built to separate the kitchen, living room, and bathroom. Having separate spaces will give the family members greater peace of mind in their daily lives. The girls will feel happier and safer living in a home that provides them with what they need. This family needs an improvement that will allow them to grow up with more dignity in their own home.
