About the Cause
Posted by TH0962 in Thailand on 03/30/2026
Raising egg-laying chickens is a popular activity in many communities because it's easy to start, requires minimal space, and provides a steady income from selling eggs. In many families, children and youth have the opportunity to learn about egg-laying chickens from a young age, demonstrating the value of hands-on work and responsible animal care. We've started this project at a small scale and want to expand it to more families and youth. Raising egg-laying chickens not only provides a high-quality protein source for the family, but also provides a stable source of additional income. Eggs are in high demand throughout the community, from markets, shops, schools, and individuals. This makes egg-laying chickens a year-round occupation, with no seasonality and relatively low market risk. Furthermore, raising egg-laying chickens teaches farmers important skills, such as planning, cost- and profit-based calculations, time management, and problem-solving. Farmers must pay close attention to their food, water, cleaning, and health, fostering the awareness that "every job requires care and dedication." For all these reasons, raising egg-laying chickens has become a valuable activity, both for career development, income generation, and fostering a sense of responsibility in students and youth.

How the church will sustain the Cause
The project is designed to continue long-term through practical management and community participation. Income from eggs, manure, and simple processed products is reinvested into the project to cover feed, maintain the barn, and expand the flock. A portion of profits is set aside as an emergency reserve, making the project financially stable without needing extra funding. Youth take turns overseeing daily tasks, creating a permanent system that passes knowledge from one generation to the next. Volunteer labor and the use of recycled materials, like boxes or wood, reduce costs and keep the project self-sufficient. Eggs and fertilizer are also reused in household and community gardens, adding value and saving resources. The project doubles as a learning resource, giving children practical vocational experience and reducing the need for outside courses. Over time, it becomes embedded in daily community life, teaching responsibility, skills, and leadership while supporting income, nutrition, and family wellbeing. It can also expand into related career projects, further securing its place in the community’s long-term development.
