About the Cause

Posted by TH0501 in Thailand on 04/22/2026

In our community, some children in the project are being raised by grandparents or relatives due to family separation because of the lack of employment in our local area. And many households are facing financial hardship where daily food is not always sufficient. While the church has previously provided basic food support, we have seen the need for a more sustainable way for families to support themselves over time. If this is addressed, families will be able to move from relying only on assistance to gaining steady support through simple income-generating work. Children and youth involved will also gain practical skills, responsibility, and experience in real work that contributes directly to their household needs. To respond to this need, our church has already started a small chewy banana chip activity using locally available bananas that are often abundant and easily spoiled if not processed. To expand this work, our church will develop it into a more organized production and training activity where children and youth are consistently involved in preparing, baking, packaging, and selling banana chips. We will improve consistency in production, strengthen simple quality and packaging standards, and create a more stable system for sales within the community. Through this expansion, what began as a small activity will grow into a structured livelihood opportunity that helps families, trains youth in practical skills, and turns local resources into ongoing community support.

How the church will sustain the Cause

Going forward, our church will continue developing this activity as a self-sustaining community income system that supports both vocational training and family care. We want this work to remain simple, locally based, and accessible so that youth and church members can continue participating over time. Income from banana chip sales will be divided between reinvesting into production and supporting families in need, especially those facing food insecurity. This will ensure that the project continues to grow while also directly addressing immediate community needs. Children and youth will continue to be actively involved in production and sales, receiving small compensation for their participation while also learning responsibility, teamwork, and basic business skills. Over time, they will become more capable of managing parts of the process themselves. As the system matures, this will become a stable cycle where local resources are transformed into income, income supports vulnerable families, and participation builds long-term skills within the community, allowing the ministry to remain both practical and sustainable.
