About the Cause
Posted by TH0971 in Thailand on 02/20/2026
In our community, Karen textiles and handicrafts are an important part of who we are. Our weaving carries the stories, beliefs, and traditions of our people. For many years, these skills were passed down from one generation to the next. Today, this wisdom is slowly declining. Many young people leave the community to work or study in the cities. Traditional weaving is not being practiced as often, and fewer youth are learning these skills. We are concerned that if this continues, an important part of our cultural identity will be lost. For this reason, we want to strengthen traditional Karen weaving in our community. This Cause will provide training in weaving techniques and create opportunities for participants to practice and improve their skills. Women, youth, and other community members will be able to learn and work together. Through this project, participants will gain knowledge and practical skills in traditional weaving. They will be able to create textile products for their own use or to sell for income. At the same time, they will grow in awareness and pride in their cultural heritage. We hope this project will help preserve our local wisdom, encourage young people to value their identity, and strengthen cooperation within the community as we continue to share and develop Karen culture in a sustainable way.

How the church will sustain the Cause
The church started the Karen Weaving and Cultural Conservation project to make sure traditional weaving continues in our community. By teaching members how to create quality products that can be used or sold, the project helps families earn extra income while practicing their skills. As members gain experience, they can train others and share knowledge within the community. This way, the project can keep going on its own, passing on skills, preserving Karen culture, and supporting sustainable development without relying on additional funding.
